Animal testing has helped us understand disease, develop treatments, and protect human lives. It has also asked living animals to bear risks they cannot understand or consent to. As science gives us new ways to answer old questions, perhaps the test is changing.

Bringing an animal home may feel like the end of a journey, but for the animal, everything has changed. Adoption is only the beginning of the patient, complicated process of helping an unfamiliar place become home.
